One of Ireland’s favorite sons, Des Bishop will be dropping by the Comic Strip Live! all month to work out his material for the upcoming prestigious Montreal Comedy Festival.
Born right here in New York, Bishop moved to Ireland at 14 and that is where has spent most of his adult life. His success in comedy has allowed him to release five one-hour specials, most recently, 2009’s “Desfunctional.”
We look forward to seeing more of Des at the Comic Strip all month!
To find out when you can see Mr. Bishop, keep an eye on our schedule.
If you have been one of the thousands to see the recently released documentary I AM COMIC at comedy festivals around the country this last year (or one of the theoretical MILLIONS who saw it air on Showtime last night) you noticed comedian Ritch Shydner talk about his days growing up as a comic in New York and the various clubs that he played.
One of those clubs was, you guessed it, The Comic Strip Live! And while Ritch may have gotten the exact coordinates of the club a bit incorrect (he said we could be located in between 77th and 78th streets. For the real address, look in the top right hand corner of this blog) we very much appreciate the sentiment!
And congrats to Jordan Brady for putting out such a wonderful piece of work!
Mets < Strippers > Yankees
An Equation We Can All Agree With
We grabbed this piece of Comic Strip nostalgia from the Eat, Drink, Laugh site this morning. Did you know that the Strippers were a force to be reckoned with in Central Park during their softball hey day?
Recognize any big names?
It’s fun to see some of our favorite comics on TV. To catch up with them via podcast, check out In the Tank with Jon Fisch.

At this years Rooftop Aspen Comedy Festival, many comedians who call the Comic Strip Live! home be in attendance. But two of the performers poised to make the most impact are club favorites Brian Scott McFadden and Jermaine Fowler.
Both McFadden and Fowler received invitations to attend the festival located in scenic Aspen, Colorado and will be performing in a wide range of shows throughout the four day festival. Jermaine Fowler will be hosting one of the nationally star-studded evening programs as well as performing a set at neighboring Steebs Comedy Club. Fowler already has been awarded one of the festival’s “Silver Nails” recognizing achievement in America’s best emerging underground comedy talent.
McFadden will perform throughout the festival as a feature attraction and will most definitely be garnering attention after his recent breakout year which has already included appearances on CBS’s Late Show with David Letterman and the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.
In addition, club owner Robert Wachs will be on hand to present during a panel discussion on what it takes to make it from the comedy stage to the big screen. This topic is of constant discussion amongst those in the comedy community and Wachs expertise on the matter will certainly cause this event to be one of the big attractions of the festival.
And just when you didn’t think there could be any more, this years Rooftop Comedy Festival will also be the home of the debut of a new trailer for the documentary chronicling the history of the Comic Strip: Eat, Drink, Laugh.
Other notes of interest: club favorite Marina Franklin has been nominated for the festival’s Golden Shingle, which recognizes the most outstanding rising stand up comedy star.
The festival takes place June 9-13th in beautiful Aspen, Colorado.
