It’s a banner day in Astoria!
Tonight, one of the Comic Strip Live‘s best friends (and a long-time supporter of our efforts over here at Eighty Second & 2nd) JON FISCH will be making his debut on the most coveted show that a comedian could appear on, CBS’s “The Late Show with David Letterman.”
A consummate professional, Fisch is one of the most entertaining and enjoyable comedians to watch anytime he is in a room. An alumni of NBC’s Last Comic Standing (where he was voted audience favorite!) and Comedy Central’s Premium Blend, Fisch headlines comedy clubs internationally and is the host of the popular NYC-based podcast In The Tank with Jon Fisch. He was always appeared on NBC’s “The Apprentice” was hand-picked by Jerry Seinfeld to open for him.
To find out when you can catch Jon’s hilarious act live and in person, keep an eye on our schedule.
Congrats Jon! You’ve earned it buddy.
On Tuesday night, good friend of the Comic Strip Live! Kevin Hart walked through out famous doorways!
Hart, whose latest one hour special Laugh At My Pain, made its national television debut on Sunday, capped off his week in New York City by swinging by The Comic Strip! Accompanied on Tuesday by friend Jeffrey Gurian, Hart is one of the biggest comedy stars in the world right now, having starred in films that have grossed over $500 million!
Thanks for coming day Kevin! Be sure to check out Laugh At My Pain available for download on iTunes now!
Last September, comedian David Baker appeared on NBC’s “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno!” During his 5 minutes in the spotlight, the craft Englishman told many great jokes, a good majority of which he wrote while taking D.F. Sweedler’s Comedy Writing Course at The Comic Strip Live!
To view Baker’s late night television debut, click here!
Notable alums of Sweedler’s class include Baker, Rob Riggle (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, the films The Hangover, Step Brothers, The Other Guys), Joe Machi (Winner! New York Underground Comedy Festival Emerging Comic), Sam Morril (Winner! Laughing Skull Comedy Festival) and more!
D.F. has a new class starting on Monday, September 12th and registration has already begun! If you want to join the class, call (212) 861-9386 and ask for Jennifer.
On October 29th at 11:30pm, long-time friend of the Comic Strip Live, Orny Adams will debut his brand new one-hour stand up special on Comedy Central.
Looking forward to it, Orny!
If you have been one of the thousands to see the recently released documentary I AM COMIC at comedy festivals around the country this last year (or one of the theoretical MILLIONS who saw it air on Showtime last night) you noticed comedian Ritch Shydner talk about his days growing up as a comic in New York and the various clubs that he played.
One of those clubs was, you guessed it, The Comic Strip Live! And while Ritch may have gotten the exact coordinates of the club a bit incorrect (he said we could be located in between 77th and 78th streets. For the real address, look in the top right hand corner of this blog) we very much appreciate the sentiment!
And congrats to Jordan Brady for putting out such a wonderful piece of work!
We are finally all back from our two-week Eighty-Second and 2nd staff retreat and it is time to catch up on anything that we may have missed during our time away!
Probably the biggest news is that last Friday, April 23rd, two Comic Strip Live! favorites, Eliot Chang and Mike DeStefano debuted their half hour Comedy Central Presents specials.
Both guys crushed and the capacity crowds loved their performances. We look forward to seeing these specials repeated early and often, Comedy Central!
Congrats Eliot and Mike!
As anyone in the crowd at the Comic Strip Live! last night found out first hand, Kevin Hart is one funny man!
An incredibly likable comedian with film credits to his name such as Knocked Up, Scary Movie 3, Soul Plane, Fool’s Gold and more, Hart brought his trademark delivery (and smile) to the Comic Strip last night as he performed much to the delight of our always spectacular Sunday night audience.
Kevin is also the star of the highly popular series of new commercials for online giant eBay. Watch one of the clips below:
A Philadelphia native, Hart released his first hour special “I’m a Grown Little Man” in 2009. He will be returning to the Comic Strip tonight for a spot sometime around 10’o’clock. Come on out!
