You don’t get to be a New York Times Bestselling Author for nothing! You gotta earn it! And longtime friend of the Comic Strip Live! Laurie Kilmartin certainly has!
Along with Karen Moline, Alicia Ybarbo and Mary Ann Zoellner, Laurie penned the hot new title “Sh*tty Mom: The Parenting Guide for the Rest of Us,” released earlier this month by Abrams Images. Laurie currently lives in Los Angeles where she is a staff writer for TBS’ CONAN, but we always love it when she comes back to visit us when in New York.
Longtime favorite of the Comic Strip Live! Carmen Lynch will be performing on tonight’s 8:30 show. But Carmen will be more than just performing a simple stand up set. Tonight, the Last Comic Standing alum will be audition for the late night show of all late night shows, CBS’ “The Late Show with David Letterman.” Producers of the show have been keeping a close eye on Carmen and will be in the house tonight to watch Carmen perform her best 5 minutes of stand up.
We are incredibly proud of Carmen! If you want to come support her, as well as see the rest of our amazing line-up, come by the Comic Strip tonight at 8:30pm!

Last night, long-time friend of the Comic Strip Live!, the hilarious Tom Cotter blew the panel of judges away and was rewarded with fantastically kind words, resounding audience applause and a trip to the next round on NBC’s “America’s Got Talent.”
A 23-year veteran of the stand up world with prior credits including “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Comedy Central Presents: Tom Cotter,” CBS’s “The Late Late Show” and “Last Comic Standing,” Cotter will be the first to admit he’s not yet a household name. But after last night’s amazing display of timing, writing and persistence at his craft, eyes around the world are sure to focus on the humble jokesmith from New England.
Congratulations Tom! You’ve earned this. Best wishes moving forward to the next round in Las Vegas (a place where Tom once WON the prestigious Las Vegas Comedy Festival!)
When the Comic Strip Live! opened in 1976, no one knew who or what our young crop of talented comics would develop into. Sure, we had Billy Crystal and Rodney Dangerfield hanging around and in time we would groom and provide the space for the likes of Eddie Murphy, Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, Louis C.K., Adam Sandler and countless more to grow. But all of those early days comics helped the club become what it is today.
Perhaps no comic personifies that era better than the great Joe Bolster. Starting at the Strip in one of our earliest eras, Bolster has since gone on to amazing success, appearing on “The Tonight Show,” “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “Late Night with Conan O’Brien,” starred in his own HBO “One Night Stand” special, was the winner of Showtime’s “New York Laff Off” competition and served as a writer for “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Talk Soup,” The Oscars and more.
A seasoned joke-craftsman who in 2011 released his most recent comedy CD “You Didn’t Ask, But Here’s What I’m Thinking…” Bolster performs nightly to sold-out thousand seat theater venues as the requested opening act for Brian Regan.
Joe will be performing on our 8:30 who tonight. Tickets are still available. You don’t want to miss your opportunity to see one of the best in the business, Joe Bolster, live. Order your tickets online now!
Earlier today, longtime friend of the Comic Strip Live! Jim Gaffigan released his new 75-minute stand up special “Mr. Universe.”
“Mr. Universe” is Gaffigan’s third hour-long special (following 2006’s “Beyond The Pale” and 2009’s “King Baby”) and he is the third stand up comic to release his special exclusively online for video download. As it currently stands, “Mr. Universe” will not run on television or be sold in stores and the only way to get it is by purchasing a download for $5 on his website JimGaffigan.com
Here is a sample clip from the new special.
Time to start your morning off right!
